Habits

Atomic Habits by James Clear

  • Habits are the compound interest equivalent of character and personal behaviour
  • 1% improvement every day will compound, but so will 1% decrease
  • Underlying systems and processes are more important than goals. After the marathon (goal) you stop running. If your process becoming a runner you will keep running after the marathon.
  • Small changes are not noticeable for a long time, until suddenly they show up in a overnight success.
  • In order for a habit to stick you need to incorporate it into your identity: Become an athlete vs. do exercises
    • 3 Levels of behaviour change:
      • 1st: change outcomes (aka. change what you get - lose weight)
      • 2nd: change process (aka. change what you do - new routine at the gym)
      • 3rd: change identity (aka. change what you are - become an athlete)
