# Habits
## [[Atomic Habits by James Clear]]
- Habits are the *compound interest* equivalent of character and personal behaviour
- 1% improvement every day will compound, but so will 1% decrease
- Underlying systems and processes are more important than goals. After the marathon (goal) you stop running. If your process becoming a runner you will keep running after the marathon.
- Small changes are not noticeable for a long time, until suddenly they show up in a *overnight success*.
- In order for a habit to stick you need to incorporate it into your identity: `Become an athlete` vs. `do exercises`
- 3 Levels of behaviour change:
- 1st: change *outcomes* (aka. *change what you get* - lose weight)
- 2nd: change *process* (aka. *change what you do* - new routine at the gym)
- 3rd: change *identity* (aka. *change what you are* - become an athlete)
