CVD describes a high level grouping of several diseases that relate to the blood vessel system. Typically it results in damage to the blood vessels as weakening of the artery walls resulting in aneurysms or the build-up of fatty deposits inside the arteries (called artherosclerosis) which can eventually lead to a blockage of blood flow within the vessel. If a important vessel such as the coronary arteries is subject to this it can lead to a heart attack.
